Men lose tough Cup battle against Loughborough 3rds

Updated: Jun 18

Overview: Cambridge 2 - Loughborough 3rds 6 (BUCS Cup round 2)

Well played to the lads from Loughborough that clearly are a very strong team, but we put up a good fight with lots of games going to 3.

Man of the Match: Tom Wade, time and time again rising to the occasion on the big stage!

Highlights:

Tom W won his first singles in a thrilling match that went to 3 after some debates about line calls with his opponent.

Rory took the same opponent to 3 and narrowly lost 21-18 in the 3rd, in a match that could have gone either way!

They both gave a strong fight against the number 1 singles, but simply got out classed by his skill and fitness. Shape we all want to be in come Varsity.

Sun and Cai played some strong doubles, with Cai being nippy at the net, and Sun coming in with some huge jump smashes!! They put up a good fight and lost in 3 in the first end, and lost in 2 against a very strong doubles first pair.

Ryan and Athan stepped in on very short notice for Neel and Ben who were unable to play due to injury. Despite never playing doubles together they looked like they were a partnership that was just meant to be, playing with a lot of fire and determination. They were up 18-11 against the 1st pair but ended up having the game stolen in a fierce game that ended 23-25. They went on to lose the 2nd end. Although in great spirit, despite being disheartened by this they came out all guns blazing to take the doubles 2nd pair in a comfortable 2 set victory. Love to see that fight and courage from CUBaC let’s keep it up!

Overall, well played by Loughborough who showed their class, but a strong fight by the CUBaC men. Well done lads!
