The 2nd of November saw the return of the Cambridge men's BUCS matches, following a one-week break in fixtures. Having achieved good results against them last year, the CUBaC squad was confident on the way up to Lincoln, and was looking to build upon the success of our last match (a 7-1 win against Nottingham).
The match started with singles, as Finlay and Vidun looked to start the day strongly. After quickly adjusting to the playing conditions, both players defeated their opponents convincingly in straight games.
Next up was the doubles, with three of the four players being new to CUBaC this year, and eager to get some wins on the board for the team. Our first combination of Simon and Justice quickly overpowered their first opponents. Despite a slower start, Dib and Varun followed up with another win to bring the score to 4-0.
With work awaiting and deadlines unmoving, the CUBaC team was enthusiastic to get on with the remaining matches. Unfortunately for Lincoln, there was no change in the competitiveness of the second round of matches. All CUBaC players and pairs had overcome and defeated their opponents within slightly over an hour, achieving an impressive 8-0 win.
After a first-round loss to the University of East Anglia, the team has bounced back and is gaining momentum for upcoming fixtures, as well as a mixed varsity tournament that will be held at the end of this term. Next week, both the men’s and women’s teams will be facing Birmingham at home. Both matches will be commencing at 13:00 at the University Sports Centre. Any support is always welcome!!
